This year's Ice Wine was recently harvested in the Transylvania region of Romania - a real treat resulting from a special collaboration between the Kracher winery and the Romanian winery Liliac.

Why Romania?

Transylvania is a region known not only for its myths and legends, but also for its exceptional wines. The grapes that grow here on a unique terroir form the perfect basis for our high-quality Ice Wine. In recent years, we have noticed that it is becoming increasingly difficult to produce ice wine in Burgenland due to climate change. Often it simply remains too warm to create the natural conditions for this sophisticated wine specialty.

A long-standing friendship between Kracher and Liliac gave rise to the idea of producing Ice Wine in Romania. The cool winters of Transylvania offer ideal conditions for freezing the grapes for this special wine and thus developing the typical aromas of an Ice Wine.

The best of two worlds
The combination of hand-picked Romanian grapes with a great deal of Austrian expertise makes Liliac and Kracher Ice Wine an incomparable taste experience. The wine is made from the Muskat Ottonel, Traminer and Fetească Albă grape varieties, which perfectly harmonize the interplay of fruit, sweetness and fine acidity. Each bottle not only contains the passion of both wineries, but also the special Transylvanian terroir that makes these wines so unique.

Looking forward to 2024
We are already looking forward to the 2024 vintage, but you will have to be a little patient until then.
