The beginnings of Blend II.

First time Blend II was released in 1991. At this time it was a blend of Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch. That changed with vintage 2000 when we decided to blend the local variaty Zweigelt with the international grapes Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. My father Alois Kracher jr. planted Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon mid 1980s as test vinyards. The first vintages had a lack of  ripeness as it was much colder back than. As the vines got older and climate changed to be warmer, the grapes became fully ripe from vintage 2000 and on and Blend II with the blending of 3 variaties was born.

Zweigelt is showing its typical fruitiness of plumbs and cherries, Merlot gives power and the body in the mid and Cabernet Sauvignon its nice tannins and a long finish. The result is a very harmonic and complex blend which ages for approx 3 years in 30% new and 70 % used barrique barrels.
